Disaster Backup Plan
What is the Disaster Backup Plan, almost all IT companies have a backup plan in case the data of its servers are damaged, there are different ways of protection to deal with various risks.
Let’s look at the potential dangers that can threaten a server’s data and what exactly we did to protect our data.
1. Destruction of storage media – hard disk due to years of use or hardware failure.
A) To protect our data we have installed on all of our servers a disk system in RAID1 layout, what exactly does that mean? Imagine 2 identical disks connected to the same machine that record the same data in real time, so that one of the 2 disks is damaged there is always the second one that secures the exact same server data.
2. Total destruction of the server hardware.
3. Theft of the server from the host point.
4. Hacker penetration and data corruption.
5. Deleting data by human error.
A) To ensure all of the above we proceeded to the purchase of a separate dedicated server that had the role of Backup Server, on this server that was not accessible to the public we copied daily all the data from all other servers working to offer the services of Warland . In total these servers are 5 + 1 the Backup Server. This is also the case during the 5 years that Warland has been offering its services.
The chances of all of the above happening in a real environment are infinitesimal, in our 5 years of operation we only once had to replace a hard drive which started to malfunction see (Case 1).
Why did the disaster that struck OVH in Strasbourg, France affect us to such an extent point that we lose almost all of our data?
What we did not realize is that the company that offered us all our servers (OVH) hosted 4 of the 6 in the same building including the Backup Server. If this fire had a smaller scale and had not completely destroyed the OVH building, I probably wouldn’t need to analyze all of this details to you today.
Unfortunately, as the company itself announced and as we found out from photos and videos of the event reading too many news sites, the destruction of the OVH SBG2 building in Strasbourg, France was TOTAL, this fire is estimated to have affected 4,600,000 websites / servers.
Unfortunately we learned in the worst possible way that our Backup Plan was not enough to protect us from a disaster of this magnitude, I know that this disaster was based on random events such as the hosting of the backup server in the same building and the huge extent of the fire which completely dismantled OVH SBG2 facilities.
This dissaster made an immediate priority to us to ensure that we never again allow any event of any magnitude and intensity to have such a devastating effect on our services and data.
We worked hard to create Warland’s Extreme Disaster Backup Plan, a plan to secure our services and data on such a large scale that in theory only the destruction of the entire world would have a small chance of endangering our files.
Extreme Disaster Backup Plan

In total these servers are now 5 + 2 Backup Servers.
The geographical location of this Server is in Europe but in a different country / city than the main Warland servers.
Now this alone is not enough for us so we created another new Backup Server that has all the above features but in a completely different continent, on a completely different side of the earth and in another company in relation to the Warland Backup Server I that we have in Europe, Warland Backup Server II is located in Canada.
What does this second server really offer us and why did we create it?
Except that it offers protection as described above we have now added to the catastrophic algorithm all the following:
1. Fires, Floods, Earthquakes, Tornado, Hurricane, Volcanoes.
2. Financial collapse of the servers hosting company.
3. Civil Wars, Wars between countries.
4. Solar storms that can burn electronic systems, Meteorite fall or any other major event that can hit the one side of the planet and this is why we chose a completely different continent.
This itself seems excessive (indeed it is) but it is no longer enough for us, so we created a new data security service called G.O.D from the initials Get Own Data.
What exactly is G.O.D, each user individually will be able to download to his personal computer all the data concerning him such as:
1) Account Data
2) Character Data
3) Character SubClass
4) Character Items + Items Enchants / Augments
5) Character Skill + Skill Enchants
6) Character Friends
7) Account Payments
8) Account VIP / Bless data
Each User will be able to download all of the above in a single ZIP file from the Control Panel which Zip will be encrypted and it will not be able to affect in anyway.
If all the above fail then each player will be able to retrieve individually all the account data using the G.O.D system which will be available through the Control Panel.
In closing I would like to apologize to all of you for what happened to us, I had no intention of any of the above happening, let alone being forced to start Season 3 so early. We have known each other for many years now and you know very well my philosophy and my way of thinking, you also know how much I love this game and what I am trying to offer through Warland for this wonderful community.
We managed to offered the 1st Season for 3.5 years although we had promised 3 years from March 2016 until September 2019. In the 2nd Season I did not promise a specific period of time like the first but 19 months for me was not enough, This is why I have always stated publicly to the community pressure for WIPE that I do not intend to do WIPE so early.
Unfortunately the events overtook us and forced us to start the 3rd Season so early.
The exact date will be announced in the coming days, until then be well and stay safe from any harm.
